About University

City University Malaysia was founded by a group of scholars with extensive experience in local and international universities in April 1984. Registered with the Ministry of Higher Education under the former Education Act 1961, City University was known then as Petaling Jaya Community College (PJCC). It was established at a time when there was a growing awareness that it was necessary for the private sector to complement the national education effort.

PJCC’s aim was to equip high school leavers with extensive academic exposure to the American degree system moderated by the Consortium of American Universities and Colleges (CAUC). This was done through a biennial meeting in the United States. Since then, PJCC has successfully transferred over 20 batches of students to more than 100 universities and colleges throughout the United States, with many gaining places into the Ivy League universities for degrees in engineering (electrical, civil, mechanical and computer), journalism, business administration, finance, banking, accounting, marketing, insurance, economics, information systems, computer science, psychology, pharmacy, music and TESL. Although there were several private higher institutions in Malaysia, PJCC was the pioneer in the field for preparing students for transfer to the American universities.

Under its new management, City University College extended its international education cooperation with universities from England, Scotland, Wales, Australia, United States, Indonesia, China and several Malaysian public universities to cater for the expanding demand for higher education.

Armed with a track record of 39 years of education excellence, the University College was awarded ‘University’ status in 2016, to be recognized today as CITY UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA.

Foundation Program

• Student must complete 11 years of schooling and obtain general pass in Secondary

School Certificate / Cambridge / Pearson IGSCE O-level or equivalent with minimum

5 credits including Mathematics & English;

• Students applying for Foundation in Science are required to have credits in the

following subjects: Mathematics, 2 Science Subjects, English.

Diploma Program

• Student must complete 11 years of schooling and obtain general pass in

Secondary School Certificate / Cambridge / Pearson IGSCE O-level or

equivalent with minimum 3 credits in the relevant subjects;

• IELTS 4.0-5.0 or equivalent OR Letter of Medium of Instruction for students

whose previous education was in English medium.

Bachelor Program

• Student must complete 12 years of schooling and obtain general pass

in the Higher Secondary Certificate / Cambridge / Pearson General

Certificate of Education (A-level) or equivalent with min Grade C

in 2 subjects and pass in Mathematics & English in their Secondary

School Certificate / O-level or equivalent;

• IELTS 5.0 -5.5 or equivalent OR Letter of Medium of Instruction for students

whose previous education was in English medium;

• Students applying for Art related programmes such as Graphic Design,

Fashion Design, Architecture, Interior Design will be required to submit

portfolio or complete a drawing task.

Applying Undergraduate Degree

Undergraduate students who do not have a high school diploma can also enroll with a GED, which is the equivalent of a 12th grade education in the United States. GED preparation takes at least 4 to 6 months. For an undergraduate degree in Thailand, you have to attend 3 (or 4) years. As a scholarship, you can apply to Child Dream Association, Prospect Burma, and May Bank, which are based in Switzerland. For this scholarship, you should prepare either GED or IELTS (or) TOFEL.

Applying Postgraduate Degree

For Postgraduate, the time can last from 3 to 4 years. IELTS Band Score 6.5 (or TOFEL 80) is required. It may differ depending on the university he chooses to attend.

Differences Private & Public Universities

International public universities have a higher ranking than private universities and are more strict in accepting admissions. Since it is a public school, the education system and curriculum are more complete and the majors to choose from are more complete. Part-Time job permit

According to the law of the Thai government, international students who come to study from outside of Thailand are not allowed to work part time/full time while they are studying. As an exception, in some relevant schools, you can get internship experience with "Unpaid Internship". Only after the end of the study period can you legally apply for a job and continue living with a Work Visa.
